It's that time of year...

'Wandered out of the Museum, to the FlintHills Children's Festival going on in downtown (Rice Park) St. Paul. Thus begins festival/fair/Grand Ole' Days season!

- The smell of sunscreen

- The seduction of food tents

- The crush of hundreds of Minnesotans, wandering around, looking at each other. If there's not going to be that many, it seems that you hold your festival in a smaller local, as to feign largeness.

This, being a children's festival and earlier in the season, did not have the skank factor that is equated with later season festivals (i.e. not much skin. Just lots of happy kids, and parents wearing sunglasses & Keens..) Adopted kids, toddler kids, midsize kids - - even a group of Irish dancer girls, all identical in dresses and fake curls, chatting surreptitiously.

Neat-o.

If you go, I suggest Manny's Tortas (as Manny's is dang good) and to watch for Legion 501 - - the StormTroopers are here! I haven't spotted any of them yet (just their handlers), but I'm a little geeked out.

Onward.
